Huge success for TC Junior Crews at State Championships

The Treasure Coast Junior Rowing Team competed amongst 41 clubs this past weekend at the FSRA Sweep State Rowing Championships at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, FL. This State Championship Regatta was a two day event stacked with 276 entries. Treasure Coast entered 5 crews with rowers from Jensen Beach High School (JBHS), Martin County High School (MCHS), South Fork High School (SFHS), Jupiter High School (JHS), The Pine School, Oxbridge, Clark Center for Advanced Learning, Hidden Oaks Middle School (HOMS) and Stuart Middle School (SMS).

The competition is a 1500 m sprint with crews racing up to four times over the two days. Treasure Coast Girls 2- (pair), Shelby Cavanagh (JHS) and Sarah Larson (JBHS), placed 5th overall out of 13 crews. The Boys 2- (pair), Austin Haines (MCHS) and Gabe Kammel (Clark Center for Advanced Learning), placed 6th overall out of 12 crews, despite another crew rowing into their lane at the start of the final. Both of these crews only began racing in the 2- (pair) 3-4 weeks ago.

The Girls Freshman 8+, which included Coxswain Gigi Dunn (SMS), 8: Lindsey Scanlon (MCHS), 7: Hope Ali (MCHS), 6: Taylor Sanders (HOMS), 5: Alison Santi (MCHS), 4: Samantha Sytsema (MCHS), 3: Brooke Stern (HOMS), 2: Cassie Collins (SMS), 1: Gabriella Galland (HOMS), placed 8th overall out of 11 crews.

The Girls Junior 4+, which included Coxswain Jordyn Golden (HOMS), 4: Aislinn Widmeier (SFHS), 3: Evie Flaugh (JBHS), 2: Brooke Bartenfelder (MCHS), 1: Jules Fox (Oxbridge), placed 8th overall out of 18 crews. This crew had to race four times over the weekend in the most challenging progression.

The Girls Junior 8+, which included Coxswain Faiza Ahmed (Pine School), 8: Josephine Kaidy (JBHS), 7: Baylee Slone (HOMS), 6: Elizabeth Smith (MCHS), 5: Madeline Schroeder (MCHS), 4: Samantha Tolton (SFHS), 3: Shannon Major (MCHS), 2: Jordan Blair (MCHS), 1: AnaGabriela Alvarez (JBHS), placed 5th overall out of 11 crews missing out of 4th place by .27 seconds.

“Overall the regatta was a huge success,” said Women’s Head Coach Stefanie Falkner. “I am proud to coach this group. They are a determined, young crew competing against older rowers, but they went out there each time and rowed their hearts out.”

Jacqui Kapinowski wins Gold at the Olympic Trials

Jacqui Kapinowski is on her way to Rio for the 2016 Olympic Games August 6 - 14. There she will compete in the Women’s Arms and Shoulders 1x (single scull).

The above video was taken at the Olympic Trials hosted by Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, FL. Kapinowski is the single sculler out in front. The event was on April 24, 2016.

The Great Give - May 3rd!

TCRC is participating in the Great Give on May 3rd. Below is more information on this fundraiser.

We are about to see a new dock off the North end of our boathouse in the next 2 months. The coaching staff is eager to offer Adaptive rowing programs as soon as it is completed. In addition to the general equipment needs of the Juniors team, the club will need to have adaptive rowing pontoons, oars and have the ability to run the program with paid coaches.

Results from Sarasota Invitational Regatta

The Treasure Coast Rowing Club competed in its first spring regatta this weekend at the Sarasota Invitational Regatta in Sarasota, Florida. The club had 25 athletes compete in total from all over Martin County. TCRC had 4 boats medal this weekend! TCRC placed 3rd place in the Women’s Freshman 4+ Category (Coxswain Gigi Dunn-SMS, Samantha Tolton-SFHS, Baylee Slone-HOMS, Lindsey Scanlon-MCHS, Sam Sysytema-MCHS). 2nd place in the Women’s Varsity Lightweight 8 (Coxswain McKenzie Cameron-MCHS, Aislinn Windmeier-SFHS, Evie Flaugh-JBHS, Brooke Bartenfelder-MCHS, Ana Alvarez-JBHS, Sommer Smith-MCHS, Shleby Cavanuagh-Jupiter High, Jules Fox-Oxbridge Academy, Jordan Blair-MCHS). 3rd place in the Women’s Novice 8 (Coxswain Rebecca Cameron-MCHS, A.Windmeier, B. Slone, S. Tolton, L. Scanlon, S. Systema, Taylor Sanders-HOMS, Hope Ali- MCHS and Gabby Galland-HOMS). Finally the Treasure Coast Rowing Club placed 3rd place in the Women’s Varsity 8 category (Coxswain M. Cameron, Joey Kaidy-JBHS, Sarah Larson-JBHS, B. Slone, Madeline Shroeder- MCHS, S. Smith, Shannon Major-MCHS, A. Alvarez, and S. Cavanaugh). This was a very successful start to the Club’s spring racing season. TCRC Men's 17u 4+ Places 6th at USRowing Club Nationals

Eleven members of the Treasure Coast Rowing Club Juniors Men Team competed in the USRowing Club Nationals Regatta at Lake Harsha in Cincinnati, Ohio. Over 100 clubs from the U.S competed.

The TCRC Men’s 17u 4+ boat placed 6th overall in their event. The crew consists of Josh Palmer, an incoming sophomore at Jensen Beach High School, Lucas Rossell, Jake Grimsdale, and Jake Swabb - all incoming sophomores at Martin County High School, and coxswain Sam Millner - an incoming freshman at Jensen Beach High School.

Learn to Row Camps and National Learn to Row Day

Learn to Row Camps and National Learn to Row Day are available at the Treasure Coast Rowing Club in June and July 2015.

The National Learn to Row Day will take place on Saturday, June 6th from 9 am to 12 noon. This is a free event and open to both adults and children (grades 8 to 12.) Come join a fun group and learn a great new exercise at the TCRC Boathouse, 771 SW 28th Street, Palm City, Florida. No registration needed.

Learn to Row Camps: TCRC is offering 4 weeks of Learn to Row Camps for grades 8 to 12 this summer on the following dates: June 15-20, June 22-27, July 6-11, and July 13-18, 2015. The camps take place Monday through Saturday from 8 am to 10 am. To learn more information and to register for the camps, visit our Sign Up For Rowing page. New Masters Learn to Row Program

TCRC is now offering private and semi-private rowing lessons for adults with Coach Richie Fredericks.

Build strength, cardio endurance, flexibility and balance by learning sculling techniques. Private lessons for individuals are $35 for a 60-minute session and group lessons (2 to 4 rowers) are $20 per rower for 90-minute sessions.

Each Session Includes:

  1. Skills on the rowing machine to prepare you for the water
  2. Tour of the boathouse
  3. Full explanation of the waterways and traffic patterns
  4. Feel comfortable and safe on the water
  5. Once you pass all skills with a coach you will be cleared to row alone.
