The Spring of 2019 has become one of the most success seasons EVER for the Treasure Coast Junior Rowing Team. This year the team boated 7 crews at SE Youth Regionals, earning medals in each with the Women's 2- winning GOLD. The Women's 4x, 2- and 2x qualified for the USRowing Youth National Championship three weeks later in Sarasota. These four women (Grace Ragland, Baylee Slone, Kylie Oakes and Catie Castle) prepared by training two times per day leading up to the event. This Championship includes only the fastest 155 youth rowing programs in the whole country, and to even qualify for this is a huge deal. The four women practiced on the course Tuesday and Wednesday and then boated the 2- and 2x early Thursday morning in the time trials. The 2- with Kylie and Catie secured a spot in the Semi Final that day while the 2x with Grace and Baylee moved to the Rep Friday to try and make a go for the Semi. One hour later the four women boated the 4x and in that time trial earned a spot in the Semi. Friday came and the 2x had an amazing performance earning a spot in the Semi Final. So on Saturday morning the four boated their 2- and 2x and then an hour later the 4x. That day for the first time in club history the 2- and the 4x made the Grand Final in Sunday. The 2x moved to the petite final. Sunday came quickly and the Florida heat and weather was unrelenting, with sharp winds and pressing heat. Looking around that morning we realized that just surviving to the Sunday Grand and Petite Final was a big deal, as a lot of boats had already raced the C and D final and now had packed up their boats.
That morning Kylie and Catie boated the 2- and became 5th in the country. An hour later they boated the 4x with Baylee and Grace and had one of the most nail biting races of the regatta. 250 meters until the finish line their boat was in 3rd place and at then 5 strokes to the finish RowAmerica Rye powered up and beat them by only 0.8 seconds. The girls threw everything they had into that race and became the 4th fastest Varsity Women's 4x in the country!! One hour later Baylee and Grace boated their 2x in the Petite Final and finished 12th overall.
The U17 Men traveled to Cooper River, NJ to compete at the Inaugural U17/15 National Championship on Jun 1-2. There they battled through time trials in the 4x and 4+, making the Grand Final in both boats. The U17 Men's 4+ earned a BRONZE medal becoming the 3rd fastest crew in the country. The same boys went out an hour later to become 6th in the country in the U17 Men's 4x.
Treasure Coast Junior Rowing has become TOP 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 12th in the NATION!! WE cannot be any prouder of these student athletes.
